‘SHAPING THE FUTURE: EMERGING SKILLS FOR A SUSTAINABLE EU PROCESS INDUSTRY’

Economic, digital and technological developments, as well as increasing energy efficiency and environmental demands, present the European Energy Intensive Industries with many challenges including the continuous updating of the qualifications, knowledge and skill profile of its workforce. The SPIRE-SAIS project brings together stakeholders from across the SPIRE community, including Industry sector associations, Education and training providers, Research & Technology organisations, Research institutions, Regional institutions, companies and others, to enable and accelerate the uptake of Industrial Symbiosis and energy efficiency by developing a comprehensive cross-sectorial blueprint for skills.

Last week the project SPIRE-SAIS had its closing conference in Dortmund (Germany). The industry panel was chaired by Miikka Nieminen (EuroFER) and Dr Aurela Shtiza, on behalf of Industrial Minerals Association Europe, shared the panel with:
Klaus Peters (ESTEP)

Christian Leroy (European Aluminum)

Sophie Grenade (IndustryALL Europe)

Key take-aways from the panel:

• Transition to circular economy needs anticipation of the right skills for all industry sectors in Europe

• Industrial symbiosis awareness can create opportunities to work beyond the sector and industrial site boundaries;

• Better industrial symbiosis uptake requires the involvement of multiple stakeholders such as: companies; trainers; permitting authorities and society at large; Pro-active action in agile education, training, re-skilling, up-skilling on the job sites are more than ever necessary to tackle industry readiness and competitiveness.

IMA Europe thanks to all our partners for taking part in the SPIRE-SAIS Final Conference!
