The 5th Energy Transition and Emission Reduction Event for the Metals and Mining industry was held in Helsinki, Finland, on 11 and 12 June 2024. The event brought together decision-makers and industry experts for discussions on decarbonisation and emission reduction. This 2-day business networking event showcased insightful case studies and presentations from industry leaders in metals and mining.

These two days dedicated to the energy transition and circularity in the minerals & metals sector, was event organised by Future Bridge Events.

The presenters shared the different facets of transition as they get developed and tested in different geographies.

  • Policy related developments initiatives;
  • The challenges and complexities of permitting within EU;
  • Energy transition: Use and availability of hydrogen; electrification;
  • Valorising multiple mining waste tailings: New products and better efficiency thanks to use of innovative technologies;   
  • The involvement and commitment of various multiple stakeholders within the value chain to make the transition a reality.

Dr Aurela Shtiza, the Director in Industrial Affairs & Raw Materials at Industrial Minerals Association Europe, was one of the panelists at the event.

Dr Shtiza expanded on following topics:

  • Mapping current emission levels across mineral companies in EU;
  • Aligning targets with industry standards and global sustainability goals;
  • Incorporating NET Zero targets into company driven initiatives;
  • Encouraging employee involvement in achieving NET Zero targets.
