Every year in October, Europe observes the European Week for Safety and Health at Work, a flagship moment in the Healthy Workplaces campaign coordinated by EU-OSHA. It’s a week dedicated to raising awareness, sparking dialogue, and energising action across workplaces in every country to improve occupational safety, health, and risk prevention.

This year is especially meaningful: it’s the last European Week under the current campaign theme, “Safe and Healthy Work in the Digital Age” (2023–2025). Over the coming days, dozens of events – webinars, trainings, exhibitions, panel discussions, awareness tools and more – will bring the digital transformation of work into sharper focus, highlighting both the promise and the risks.

As one of the official partners in the campaign, IMA-Europe is pleased to join in marking this Week, reinforcing our commitment to making workplaces safer, healthier and more equitable for all.

Why This Week Matters in the Digital Age

Digitalisation is reshaping how we work: new systems, algorithms, automation, remote and hybrid models, smart devices, AI-driven management. While these developments hold huge potential, they also bring emerging occupational safety and health (OSH) challenges.

The 2023-2025 Healthy Workplaces campaign focuses on five priority areas to guide awareness, tools and good practices:

  1. Digital platform work (platform economy): Read more
  2. Automation of tasks: Read more
  3. Remote and hybrid work: Read more
  4. Worker management through AI: Read more
  5. Smart digital systems: Read more

Over the campaign’s span, EU-OSHA and its partners have developed a rich array of resources: guides, case studies, infographics, awareness kits, policy briefs, workshops, awards schemes (Good Practice Awards), and more, all targeted to different sectors, sizes of organisations, and stakeholders.

IMA-Europe’s Role & Activities

As a committed Campaign Partner of EU OSHA Campaign, IMA-Europe organised in November 2024 a workshop in Italy in Sassuolo attended by 35 health and safety specialists from our member companies to discuss ‘safety in the digital age in the industrial minerals industry’ in presence of Maurizio CURTARELLI, Senior Research Project Manager | Prevention and Research Unit, European Agency for Safety and Health at Work.

This event contributed to the Campaign’s objectices which are:

  • Raising awareness
  • Contributing good practices
  • Engaging stakeholders
  • Supporting capacity building

At IMA-Europe, we will be actively participating throughout the Week, sharing relevant content, and engaging with partners and stakeholders. We believe that digital transformation must be inclusive, safe, and human-centred — and this Week reminds us that action matters.

Let’s use this Week not just to talk, but to act — in our workplaces, in our sectors, and across Europe.
